Fascinating purchase My wife purchased this for me after I spotted an advertisement for it in the paper. It is indeed a very fascinating with an excellent and varied selection of maps spanning 1000 years plus. Each map has a highly lucid and well written explanation of what each map shows and the context in which it was made. Highly recommended, interesting and informative.
The title says it all A superb book which will appeal to historians, cartographers, and to the general reader alike. It covers maps from the 11th century to 21st century, ranging from the conjectural world map (showing Britain) to the small locational map e.g. H.M. the Queen’s coronation route in London. All the maps are full page (except where they are given a two page spread), and no map has more than one page of accompanying text.
THIS BOOK WILL GIVE ME MANY HAPPY BROWSING-HOURS. I LOVE IT AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE FOR ANYONE WHO ENJOYS HISTORY AND WHO LOVES MAPS. THE MAPS ARE CLEARLY PRESENTED, AND THE TEXT INFORMATIVE YET CONCISE. THIS BOOK WILL GIVE ME MANY HAPPY BROWSING-HOURS. I LOVE IT!
