So pleased I bought this fabulous book Brilliant, practical, inspiring and very easy to read – any aspiring director (and I suspect many established ones) would benefit from reading this book. Every aspect of what makes a good director is covered. Deserves it’s reputation for being the most recommended, “if you only buy one book on directing buy this one” offering. So often handbooks can be dry and tedious, but this, with all it’s practical examples and reassurance is interesting as well as instructive and informative…

Indispensable for a novice I bought this as a guide to directing my first opera – actually my first anything. Although it is about directing a play, the method adapts well. As amateurs our rehearsal time is only a fraction of what is required here, but the background research and development allowed us to go into rehearsal well prepared.
