Abstract
The retail industry is ever-changing and has expanded to the point of market saturation where consumers are given too many choices of where to shop. In order to combat this and remain relevant, retail has been evolving over the past one hundred years providing multichannel options to consumers. Through mail-orders, gift registries, retail spaces, and then online, each channel has superseded its predecessor. Voice technology integrated with artificial intelligence has become the fastest growing technological advancement since Apple’s wearables and is being sold all around the world through voice assistants and smart speakers. With the introduction of this new channel, this dissertation will research how technology is currently used within retail, how voice technology can be implemented into the fashion retail sector, and whether or not voice technology is a new channel that retailers should be taking advantage of and if it could supersede web or mobile sales.
