Disappointing doesn’t begin to describe it… Like several others I felt that to be endorsed by Lee Child, the quality of these short stories should be good if not excellent. What a mistake to make! Some were not bad, a few were quite good, but I gave up after “the Gato Conundrum” which I just found annoying (what a load of rubbish!), and in which I couldn’t help giving a derisory snort when the author had his character throw down “a 1,000 euro note”… The highest denomination in euro banknotes is 500, perhaps John Lescroart was lazy…

Brush up your American slang terms. I was attracted to buy, mainly by Lee Child’s apparent recommendation, but I have to say I was very disappointed.I was reminded of W.S. Churchill’s comment regarding our American and English languages. There seemed to be so much American slang in the body of many of the texts that I really felt I was reading a foreign language.I have to admit I did not complete reading the whole number of stories perhaps I missed some better ones.

Short, Sharp and Sweet! An ideal companion for dipping in, if time is at a premium. Great to take away for brief breaks. Some of the newer authors featured here show great promise, and the established writers have donated some gems. Short and sweet, worth a go!
