This is the definitive biography of Freddie Mercury. Written by an award-winning rock journalist, Lesley-Ann Jones toured widely with Queen forming lasting friendships with the band. Now, having secured access to the remaining band members and those who were closest to Freddie, from childhood to death, Lesley-Ann has written the most in depth account of one of music’s best loved and most complex figures. Meticulously researched, sympathetic, unsensational, the book – like the forthcoming film – will focus on the period in the 1980s when Queen began to fragment, before their Live Aid performance put them back in the frame. In her journey to understand the man behind the legend, Lesley-Ann Jones has travelled from London to Zanzibar to India. Packed with exclusive interviews and told with the invaluable perspective that the twenty years since Mercury’s death presents, Freddie Mercury is the most up to date portrait of a legendary man. Fully revised and updated edition.

An amazing man This is the first biography that I have read in full. I have tried other biographies of people I am interested in but just not finished them.I think the reason is because Freddie was so fascinating. I wasn’t interested in Queen growing up but now I am. The book has lots about where Freddie was born and went to school. There were lots of quotes from him and other people. I did enjoy the book.I got sad the author described his illness and how he died. It feels like it was only yesterday I can’t believe it was 25 years ago!!! Freddie has always been my favourite musician and always will be. I would recommend this book.

Must read What a brilliant read.Am quite a fan of Freddy so avidly read and watch documentaries.Found out a few facts that I didn’t know and some were missed.Having said that the volume would have been like war and peace if everything included.Very well written

A must read for Queen fans I found this book a very honest recollection of the great Freddie Mercury, truly individual Rock Star, I have read another book about Queen which skimmed over Freddies early formative years in Zanzibar, this book dosent do that, it tells the reader in great detail about early family life but although it is mainly about Freddie it also tells of the struggles of all the band members going about their daily lives in order to achieve a record deal.Eventually this happened and the rest is Rock history, RIP Freddie
