There are countless books about wildlife photography. These are great if you want to learn about lenses, cameras, exposure and composition. However, most lack detail about how to get the photographer close to the actual subjects. This book is different. It will give you in-depth guidance that (with practice) should allow you to master some of the arts of field craft. The main emphasis (often at a species level) is to allow the reader to find, approach in the right manner and photograph a wide range of animals (birds, mammals, herptiles, invertebrates) and plants found in Britain. There are many projects and tips that will allow you to gain and perfect many of the skills needed to become a successful wildlife photographer. There are also sections on suitable camera gear, hides, clothing and licences that compliment the work on field skills.

It’s chock-full of useful practical tips and advice based on his extensive real-world experience. It starts with a section on ethics and licenses – providing some interesting examples of how easy it is to fall foul of the law when photographing certain species, and covers how to obtain a…
