Excellent book, not for beginners, or maybe purchase in advance ready for when you learn more and the book starts to make sense Very intuitive book, one to keep for ever as there is so much to do and so much to learn. If you have been disappointed in the past with some books which maybe concentrate on beginner to intermediate, then this book will serve you well as Tom Ang assumes you have reasonable technical camera knowledge and some sort of photographers eye.He puts you through the paces but its well worth the ride!

Not for a beginner I don’t think… I didn’t like this as a beginner to photography. I felt that it threw me right in at the deep end with lessons and tasks and plenty of pictures, but the descriptions were too tecnical and didn’t really mean much. I think someone doing a course or someone who has some experience would find this book good, but not a beginner.I returned it and got the Beginners Photography Guide from DK instead and have found that brilliant, giving me plent of ideas.Hope that helps.

Wish I’d kept this Present to Myself! I originally bought this as a present for my Brother-in-law. Sadly, I was caught by him doing a “quality control inspection” on it and it looked even more inspiring and up-to-date than my previous Tom Ang books. I was forced to hand it over and now he’s regularly getting 1st prizes in the Photo Socs Competitions| Its a beautiful book and I wish it was mine!
